Therese Diekhans

Therese holds a BFA in Theatre from Fort Wright College, where she studied under Robert and Joan Welch, themselves students of Strasburg. After interning at the prestigious Alley Theatre in Houston, Therese returned to the Pacific Northwest and was a founding member of Spokane Interplayers Theatre. During her five years there, Therese directed and acted in numerous productions, playing such diverse characters as Viola in Twelfth Night, Agnes in Agnes of God, Gwendolyn in Importance of Being Earnest and Pfeni in The Sisters Rosensweig.

Therese has appeared in many theatres in Seattle, as Bev in the long running hit, Angry Housewives at Pioneer Square Theatre, as Alice More in A Man For All Seasons and Marilla in Anne of Green Gables at The Village Theatre, Sr. Jeanne in The Devils at AHA! Theatre, and The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz for CLO.

Other roles include the title roles of both Candida and Antigone for Northwest Shakespeare Ensemble as well as Alma Hix in The Music Man at The 5th Avenue. Most recently, Therese has developed and performed David Christie's one woman show Mother Jones Will Speak! as well as directing The American Dream at Stone Soup. She has also edited and directed A Midsummer's Night's Dream and Macbeth for young performers, as well as adapting and directing J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.

In her more than 30 years of theatre training and experience, Therese has come to understand a thing or two about acting and the human experience, enough to know that the one cannot be truthfully explored without the other. This is at the core of her teaching. The actor must have an understanding of the human condition, both his own and his characters', in order to truthfully portray a living, breathing person, one with which the audience can in some part identify. In this way we establish a connection with our community, and through our art, make not only our world a better place, but ourselves a more cognizant part of our world.
